Ideas for Free or Cheap Fun In Peabody, Salem & Marblehead This Summer

There are lots of ways to have fun in the North Shore, without spending a ton!

Looking for cheap summer fun in Peabody, Salem or Marblehead? Check out our ideas:

1. Visit a playground in Peabody

My kids love to visit Adventures for Angels Playground at Lt. Ross Park (Centennial Park or Cy Tenney Park) at 23 Johnson Street. It is the perfect spot for all ages with lots to do for the toddlers, preschoolers and elementary school aged kiddos. It is fenced in with three sections that attract all different age groups. There are slides of varying sizes, large and small climbing structures and monkey bars geared towards kids under 5. There are tire swings for groups to use and individual swings for babies and older children. A sandbox is off to the side with some digging tools. Don't forget to bring the bikes if you want to take a cute walk down a section of the Rail Trail. In the warmer months, you'll probably see some turtles, ducks and birds along the way. You can enter right from the playground parking lot, which has plenty of easily accessible parking spaces. The one draw back here - no bathrooms, but you might find a port-a-potty near the baseball fields.

2. Splash at Dane Street Beach in Beverly

This is a true hidden gem on the North Shore! There is free parking in a small parking lot or on the street. The beach is easy to walk onto with kids, whether low or high tide. There are bathrooms open from Memorial Day to Labor Day. A nice playground is also easily accessible on the way in or out. It is a rocky beach so make sure to bring water shoes and don't forget the sand toys. Go during low tide to splash around in the tide pools, find some hermit crabs and collect shells!

3. Celebrate Music at the Summer Concert Series

There's nothing that says summer more than a free outdoor concert by a local band. Check the list of local upcoming concerts & tell all your friends to meet you there!

4. Go to the Peabody, Salem or Marblehead library!

The libraries in our community are awesome and really do a great job at providing free events, activities and resources for kids and adults.

Check out some of our favorite events coming up soon:

5. Enjoy the Rail Trail

Go out for some time in nature and take in the fresh air during a walk, run or bike ride on the Independence Greenway rail trail.

6. Take a scenic walk around Salem

Take in the sights of the locals and out-of-state visitors as you explore historic Salem. Find the Bewitched statue and take a picture with her, have a picnic in Salem Common, walk through the cemeteries to read the gravestones, go see the Friendship of Salem on the Wharf.

7. See a Movie at the Warwick Cinema

We are lucky to have a great little theatre in Marblehead that shows family movies. Take advantage of their family summer series with $3 movies at 10am on Fridays

8. Check out all that the CFCE of the North Shore Has to Offer

Did you know that all programs and events offered by the Coordinated Family and Community Engagement Program are free for families in Beverly, Boxford, Danvers, Marblehead, Middleton, Peabody, Salem, Swampscott, and Topsfield. They especially focus on kids that are 5 years and under and offer parenting resources too. Check out their free summer music programs and playgroups in session now.

Their next interactive performance with Mary Beth Maes is at the NorthShore Mall on July 19th!
