Healthy Fruit & Protein Smoothies for Kids

Make fruit smoothies full of protein, vitamins and antioxidants at home!

By Romina Symonds February 22, 2023

Did you know that February is National Snack Food Month? My mission during food shopping adventures at Market Basket is to find new snacks every week that my kids will actually eat, are healthy and will keep them from constantly saying "I'm hungryyyy".

Sounds like every mom's goal, right?

But it's even better when you can create something fresh, filling and satisfying right at home! When I feel like I really need to get my kids to eat something for an energy boost with protein, fruit and a bit of veggies, my go to suggestion is, "let's make a smoothie"!

Here are two recipes for our favorite ones.

Creamy Strawberry Smoothie

I know this one is going to seem a bit strange, but just try it once and I think you'll be hooked! Avocado whips up smoothly and is such a nice creamy texture. Adding it to a smoothie is a great way to get good fats, vitamins and fiber!

Ingredients
1 cup milk (whichever you prefer or water if you can't do milk)
1 banana
1 avocado peeled and pit removed
1 cup strawberries
4-6 ice cubes

Instructions
1. Start with milk (or water) and ice cubes in bottom of blender.
2. Add banana, avocado and strawberries.
3. Blend on high until smooth & enjoy!

You can also add other berries (raspberries, blueberries or blackberries) to your taste!

Green Smoothie

I know not every parent believes in hiding veggies, but this is a great way to add a little green to your kid's diet. Let's face it, hiding it in smoothies helps adults to eat spinach & kale too!

Ingredients
1/2 cup milk (whichever you prefer or water if you can't do milk)
1/2 cup orange juice
1/2 cup plain yogurt (greek or whichever you prefer)
4-6 ice cubes
1 banana
1 cup or a handful of baby spinach or kale (don't add too much or your kids might hand the smoothie right back to you!)
1 cup strawberries or mango (or both!)

Instructions
1. Start with milk (or water), yogurt, orange juice and ice cubes in bottom of blender.
2. Add banana and other fruit.
3. Add spinach or kale last.
4. Blend on high until smooth & enjoy!
